Early Decision?

I tried (and failed) to get in last year, but much of that (I'm told) is because I applied so late in the season. Now I have a fresh pack of secondaries that I'm sending off. But Early Decision has me worried!

I don't want to apply Early Decision. I don't want to commit to one school. I _want_ to just apply early. If I apply to schools before their Early Decision deadline, am I automatically put in that bucket? Are they made aware that I am applying to other schools? Do I have to wait until September to avoid accidently getting thrown into the Early Decision pool?

Huh? No, you can't be counted as "Early Decision" unless you take affirmative steps to apply that way - it doesn't matter when your app is sent in. Early Decision is a binding agreement between you and one school. Nobody can count you as "Early Decision" without your expressed agreement.

Late July is not early for secondaries, BTW. It's about middle-of-the-road, maybe even a little late. But not too late. You should get a fair shot.

If you click "early decision" on the AMCAS, it will only let you apply to one school. IF you applied to more than one school, there is no way that you are early descision--you are just early 🙂. Good luck!
