Which would a student have a better chance to get accepted in as OOS: Cali MD school or Cali residency?

I'm an East Coast resident and want to go to either a med school or residency in CA.. which would be "easier" for OOS?

Any cali residency? Also what kind of stats are you holding for med school? There are cali schools that are possibilities for OOS such as USC, UCSF, Stanford, etc. but many of these are the most competitive schools already so unless you're boasting a really strong app that can butt out the many thousands of IS students that are qualified for those seats, you'll probably have a really hard time.

Residency.

As long as you don't mind living in Fresno or Bakersfield.

Suppose a 3.75/34 with good ECs. I know Loma Linda is OOS friendly, but I am not Christian and may not seem like a fit in that school. Would I have a chance at an interview at UCSF, USC, UCLA, or Stanford?

Not great chances at any of them except maybe USC. Those schools just get quite a few very qualified applicants.

All you can do at this point is apply broadly in Cali and see where you get accepted. Afterwards, you can weigh the pros and cons of each acceptance (this applies to every school, not just the ones in California).

Out of curiosity, I sometimes look at residency programs in CA, but I do realize that it's premature (although fun 🙂). I think residency selection is a different animal. It's a more specific process (you only match at one place), and at this point, you're pretty far from making a rank list.
So just focus on getting into a "best fit" med school. Good luck!!

Look into UCI as well, I believe they don't give preference to IS applicants (which sucks). Still a good school and it's within your stat range.
