Program-Specific Info / Q's Eastern Washington OT Interview tips?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
From previous interview, I would definitely suggest not dressing casually. Wear something business looking that you're also comfortable in. While you don't want to be stressed out from what you are wearing, its best to send them the signal that you are serious and that you want this seat in their program.

As far as questions, the typical ones are almost always asked: Tell us about yourself. Why do you want to be an OT? Why our program? What can you bring to our team? Strengths? Weaknesses?

They mostly want to get to know who you are so don't be afraid to expose your personality and always put positive to it. Even if you say a weakness, find someone to make it a positive or say how you're going to work on it. Tell them about past accomplishments and ways that you've diversified and applied yourself. Best of luck!

One question that I had at an interview that really threw me for a loop was what my greatest achievement was. It's really hard for me to brag about myself so that question was extremely difficult to answer. Also dress professionally but comfortably. You don't want to wear high heels and be miserable the entire time. I just wore outfits that fit more with the climate I was at. If it was somewhere nice I wore a nice blouse and dress pants, but somewhere colder throw on a blazer. Definitely not something to stress about though.

As everyone stated above, the interview is very straightforward in the sense they really want to get to know you as a person. At the time it was a group interview with 3 other students, a faculty member, community member, and a current student in the program. Since it is a group interview, it would be ideal to take turns and not always "jumping the gun" to be the first one to answer. In OT school there are tons of group work so they want see how you work in a group as well. One of the questions they ask was what will make you successful in the program? I would suggestion asking questions at the end of the interview pertaining to the program. This shows you have looked to see how their school differs from other schools and your are interested to learn more. They provide a tour the campus with current students so you may ask them any questions you have. Be yourself.
