Hi all. I am a current junior planning on applying during the 2027-2028 cycle. I just wanted to get input/advice on my projected ECs for that application cycle and see if there are any gaps I should look to fill.

Clinical: 725 hours
  • Volunteer Medical Assistant at a free clinic- 500
  • Volunteer patient transport- 175
  • ED volunteer- 50
Research: 650 hours
  • Surgery lab- 400
  • Rheumatology lab- 250
  • 2 mid author pubs and 2 posters
Non-clinical Volunteering: 200 hours
  • Food bank volunteer
Teaching: 125 hours
  • Volunteer general and organic chemistry tutor
Leadership: 100 hours
  • TA for first-year seminar
Shadowing: 56 hours
  • Ortho- 32
  • Family med- 8
  • Derm- 8
  • General surgery- 8
Other: 175 hours
  • Behavioral Health Technician (ABA)
I have read conflicting opinions on if this counts as clinical experience thus, any input on the classification of this activity would be great.

Hobbies: ~200 hours
Long distance running (completed 1 half-marathon and 1 full marathon)

A GPA and MCAT obviously helps us.

I think you have too many hours in ortho vs. your other fields. Depends on what you are doing as a BHT as I understand I hear it argued both ways (clinical vs. non-clinical).

Thank you for the response. My current GPA is 3.91 and I anticipate it to stay around there come time to submit my application. I take my MCAT in late July. I'm hoping to increase my family medicine shadowing hours this upcoming summer. As a BT I carried out ABA therapy plans as directed by the client's board certified behavioral analyst and collaborated with occupational therapists, and speech language pathologists. Outside of evening out my shadowing hours is there anything else I can do over the next year to round out my application?
