So right now I'm doing a few extra curriculars that I really enjoy, but I'm unsure whether or not I should put myself out there and try to do a little bit more. Aside from club memberships (which I don't find very important or engaging), I'm a regular volunteer at a respite program for caregivers of people with Alzheimer's Disease, a local hospice program, and in the rehabilitation program at the local hospital.

I was in a research lab for a semester my freshmen year, but dropped it due to lack of interest. However, I do intend on getting involved in some form of research sometime soon (because it's required for graduation with a bio degree heh heh). Also I've shadowed a primary care physician and plan on looking for more opportunities in that area.

But simply in terms of my volunteer activities, do you folks think I'm where I should be for a second year pre-med student? Should I pick up something else or am I good where I'm at? Thanks guys!

I think you are doing fine. One thing to consider is that adcoms like continuity in an EC; it shows your commitment to. Also if you stick around with one thing you like you can get more insights in that particular area and when you get an interview you can have a good conversation about it.

Thanks guys! I do plan on staying in these positions as long as possible.

Depends on your expectations on what type of med school you want to go to: if you don't mind going to local state school, having decent academics and cookie-cutter ec's will be enough. But if you want to go to Harvard, you might want to consider standing out.
