So I began volunteering at my local hospital and I was wondering if I could mention this on my dental school application later on down the road when I apply? I am concerned that dental schools will mislabel me as someone who has interest in the medical field as opposed to dentistry. What are your thoughts? I also plan on shadowing a dentist as soon as I can find one that gives me the opportunity to do so lol

Also, any advice regarding dental school is appreciated. I'm barely going to be a sophomore in college next semester so I still have long ways to go but I would like to know what are some ECs that I can do to boost my chances of admission? I'm in the dental club and I plan on shadowing a dentist, is there anything else I should do?

The more volunteering and shadowing hours the better. I would recommend to do 50 hours in a general dentist office and the rest with specialists. Get 150-200 shadowing hours and 400+ volunteering hours. I recommend to also volunteer a little bit for causes non-health related to show that you are well rounded.
Get all As and A-s and a DAT 20+AA and you'll be fine.

As for volunteering for medical causes. It's quite as good as for dental causes. Don't worry.

Do a mission trip if you can and save the world. That's all you need to do. Not much ah? 🙂

Yeah and a 4.10 GPA.

Just try not to get anything below a 17 on the DAT and do as much as you can in undergrad! Hit the 100 hour mark for shadowing and you're golden.

Actually, the only thing in which I was joking around was the save the world part. All the rest was my sincere recommendations. If OP follows that, s/he won't need to be here (like me) posting "chance me" stuff and worrying about not getting in when his/her time to apply arrives.

Also, besides getting good grades/test scores, get to know your professors early and maintain contact with them, you'll be thankful when the time for LOR comes!

Definitely! Send them an email after every semester to keep them posted of your accomplishments and always stop by their offices to say hi and come up with class related questions to ask.
