If he is taking a specific exam or class, is a book not recommended? In addition, are we talking about basic rhythm strips or appreciating bifascicular blocks, infarcts, drug effects and so on by analysing XII leads?

The Only EKG Book You'll Ever Need is comprehensive and better organized book IMO. We also used Understanding EKGs: A Practical Approach to teach a rhythm recognition class, which is a good beginner book.
