You only get 1350 characters and it asks you to describe why you think you have been economically disadvantaged. What type of thing are they looking for? Should it just be a dry list of...what? How much your parents made (there's another area for that)...that you grew up in another country (there's another area for that)...your parents professions (there's an area for that). Should I just repeat those facts in a dry manner about the economic status of the area I lived in and my family, mention that I contributed to family income, etc?

I imagine you should discuss how your not-so-great financial situation has affected your life. Listing dry details seems like a waste of space in my view, but that should probably be included in some capacity. I'm just guessing of course.

Yea the problem is that it's only 1350 characters...I am not quite sure that's enough to do justice to any personal anecdote...

They are looking for a description , that is all. Put in words a description of how all the factors you listed worked together to create the disadvantages. Include any details about a general story of how things were shaped and how it played out ...etc.

At least that's what i did.

Right. Simply give a general description and examples if possible. If you grew up disadvantaged, it should not be too hard to briefly explain to someone the odds you had to fight against in your youth.
Best of luck! :luck:

Is it actually 1350? I thought it was 1300. The first time I wrote a draft, it ended up being twice that number and right now mine is exactly 1300. You have no idea how happy I will be if I get those extra 50 characters and can add a few words explaining something.

(I wish I was being sarcastic, I really do.)

How much is considered as the timeline for "growing up"?

What if you were only economically disadvantaged until you were 10 years old?

It's subjective. You decide how much of an effect it had on your life. I think most people can tell if you're just doing it to gain an advantage or if it's legit. 🙂

I didn't write an essay. I just wrote a couple paragraphs about my mother being in and out of mental institutions throughout my childhood and my father trying to pay my medical bills (I'm in a wheelchair) and my mom's on a 25k salary. I only took up about half the characters, but I thought it accurately portrayed why I was listing myself as disadvantaged.
