I've searched and searched on these forums and I'm still unsure about ECs for Dental School. I know I'm going to volunteer or shadow a Dentist and join an honor's society at my university. However, no one will elaborate on what kind of ECs are good and how many is good.

Is ECs just volunteering or what? Where can I find ECs?

I'm just so confused about it. 😕

Volunteer, research, play sports, tutor, etc. It's not a question of which or how many; find activities you like and stick with them.

People commonly make mistakes to have as many dental EC's as possible. I say, find anything that you actually enjoy doing. This will spark a light in you later on during your interview, when asked about them. It can be anything. I taught kids to water-ski. And I like to shoot range targets. I did do an EC for Toothprints, and other dental stuff. Just don't make it all about that.

no one can elaborate because.... there is no such thing as "bad" ECs.

Pretty much anything and everything (as long as its legal) is considered okay. ECs aren't meant to weed people out (you can leave the weeding-out procedure to Orgo and DAT).

As far as "good" ECs are considered, some volunteering activities (to show that you care about ur community) along with shadowing a general dentist (to show you know what your getting ur self into) is fine. Anything beyond what I just described isn't going to matter much.... in fact, its more efficient if you spend less time with ECs and more time on GPA and DAT preparation
