so i havent heard much about this school for the obvious reasons. does anyone know the average stats for the school and if they are oos friendly? 🙂

They are not accepting applications from OOS ppl, as for the stats, I would imagine they are close to the average applicant stats for UNC, as most in-state applicants will put in applications for both schools.

Yeah, ECU will probably even be a bit lower because they won't have that small group of out of staters which normally have really high stats pulling it up.

UNC already has low stats in comparison to a lot of schools because the amount of in staters they take.

Looks good for us Carolina guys, especially with UNC expanding in a couple years (which is relevant to me anyways).

True, but I know of about 5 (and I'm sure there are even more) that had 3.5+ gpa's and 20+ DAT scores that were not accepted, which would've raised the averages slightly. So not all of NC's top numbers people will go there. My estimate is that the class average will be around an 18, but again that is just my educated opinion.

Instead of spending millions opening up a new dental school NC as a state should've just started accepting WREB or NERBs...lots of people want to work here and instead of filling the need through reciprocity they open up a new school! Reminds me of other southern states that are SO difficult to get licensed in but are absolutely dying for dentists...lol

Were they axe murderers on the side or something?

Ha, there was one I knew why they didn't get in, mainly due to their personality of a wallflower. The others (that ended up at Michigan, Penn and other schools) I knew that didn't get in were very personable and nice. At UNC, it's all a crapshoot. There is not such thing as a sure thing.

Interesting. I guess if any school was going to be a crap shoot, it would be UNC 🙄.

If one went Ivy League...and one went to another good dental school, I guess that's nothing to worry about.

I was under the impression that NC started to allow dentists to be licensed here from other states, maybe 3 or 4 years back. I'll check; but I think the major rationale for a NC-only school was to encourage people from NC to stay in NC and practice in areas that are under-served. There are several counties in eastern NC that haven't had an active dentist in 10+ years.

Yes but thats only after you've been practicing for 5 years. Just about every state now has that....
