Hello All,

Looking into working as an ED tech for clincal experience and I'm having trouble finding an accurate representation of the hours on the job postings. A lot say full time and say the working day is 6am-6pm. Does full time in this instance mean 5 days a week or 40 hours a week? I know its probably highly specific to the institution, but does anyone have any advice on this?

Full-time is what an institution wants it to be for purposes of offering benefits. It could be a 35 hour week, 36 hour week or 40 hour week. it could be 12 hours/day, 3 days per week or shifts that start as early as 6 am and run until as late as 6 pm but that would cover only 8 hours/day (6-2:30 or 9:30-6 with either including a 30 minute meal break. It might be best to ask if you are interviewed what the typical full-time employee's schedule is like.

I work full time as an ED tech and for my hospital that means three 12 hour shifts adding to a total of 36 hours per week. Part time is two 12 hour shifts per week.

My guess is yours will be the same but I could be wrong!

Most ER nurses and tech staffing follows the 12x3 for full-time employees so it's a pretty safe thought that your institution probably does something similar. Ask of course, but that's a common standard in the industry.
