I got accepted to Edinburgh's vet school and am going for a quick visit mid-March. For anyone who wants to or plans to attend, but can't visit, lemme know if you have questions and maybe I can get answers!
I'll be there for one week and am going to try and stay in a few AirBNB's, from within the city center to by the vet school. If I attend this fall, it'll be with some dogs, so my emphasis will be on assessing the rental market with pups in tow, cost of groceries/life and getting a feel for the vet school and student body.
Yay Scotland!

PLEASEEEEE let me know what you find out. Literally wondering everything you’re planning on figuring out. I also have pups and a cat (the cat can stay in the US if needed) that I would love to bring with me!! So knowing what a pet friendly place rents for and how readily available they are would be fantastic! Thank you so so much! Have safe travels 🙂

You got it!

What was the verdict!? I'd love to find out...also to pick you brain about your application maybe (only if you're up for it of course). I find this forum can be hard to find lots of pre-vet info, and it's really the only one out there like it!

Verdict is... Edinburgh is pretty great. Weather is cold most of the year, but warm countries are a short flight away and this school seems to promise some moments of relief wherein travel is possible. The campus is new (having recently moved from the original buildings) and very nice. Housing seems hard to find during the summer, but the school offers a 5 week dorm stay until the summer festivals are over and house hunting becomes reasonable again. We found a place that allows dogs relatively easily - but we offered to pay six months rent up front (since we don't have a UK credit history or UK bank account). Most houses are rented furnished - weird but also really ideal for those of us moving from abroad and not wanting to spend tons of money. I am still figuring out how I'll fly the dogs - I can update when that gets set in stone. Cost of living wise, things seem as expensive as any city. Groceries are reasonable but eating out adds up, bus is fine but taxis are expensive, etc. I think that while tuition is reasonable compared to most OOS fees in the US, the real cost is in moving and in not being able to work quite as easily over summers as one would back home. Final note is that I was happy to see that WOW airlines flies super cheap from many US cities to Edinburgh. West coast to Edin is only $400 round trip, so that makes visiting home or having folks visit a lot more affordable!
