Edinburgh 2024-2025 (c/o 2029 hopefuls)

Invite to NY as well! I am wondering if anybody’s invite specifies that it’s for the 4 year graduate entry program though? At the top of my email it says “Programme: BVM&S Veterinary Medicine (5-year programme)” and so I’m wondering if that is just general or if I am truly not considered for the GEP.

Mine was specified as well, for the four year program.

Mine for NY says "Programme: D102 - BVM&S Veterinary Medicine (Graduate Entry Programme - 4-year programme)"

Shieeeeeeet—can I ask what your guys’ undergraduate degrees are? I’m looking at their website and I have all the prerequisites, the only thing I can think of knocking me into this category is the fact that I have a Political Science degree and went back to school as part of a post-Bacc program to get all my prerequisites for US institutions.

My undergraduate was in Biology and then I finished a Master’s degree. If it helps, they still think you’re a very competitive applicant to consider your application for the 5-year program! My application was moved to the 5-year for RVC because I didn’t have enough anatomy, it could be something as simple as that 🙂

My undergraduate degree is a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science with a minor in Chemistry! I think it may be worth asking them why they specified the five year for you. But still, this amazing-you’re competitive enough to get an interview!

I got my interview invite this morning too! For San Francisco! I applied via UCAS for the 5-year program! My bachelors is in History, but I'm working on an associates degree in Biology!

Congrats to everyone who got accepted, best of luck to yall!
For those who got accepted and if you dont mind, could you let me know what type of references you had? I asked Edinburgh about my rejection and they said that it was just my references that werent strong enough, but I had 1 vet and 2 profs that I knew really well. Starting to wonder if I should have given the max amount of references

Those references seem strong by what I'd expect of most schools' standards. I'm sorry this school didn't work out for you, but there is more still to come! My references were 2 vets, 1 researcher, and 1 prof. I was pretty close with the vets and researcher, but the prof didn't know me as well.

I had 2 vets that I worked with for a whole summer, one professor that knew me, and my boss from a non animal related job.

Those seem like fine references, it doesn't hurt to get a couple more though. I had 2 vets, 2 professors, one vet tech/manager (manager of the veterinary blood bank I currently work in), and a supervisor from the 4H clubs where I volunteered for a couple years. I was a superintendent for the rabbit department in our county, so she could speak to my work ethic and my work with animals and people. Maybe try to find someone who can really speak to your character? Perhaps they were looking for really personal details. If they can write a really powerful, compelling, or emotional letter of support, then the admissions will be more interested (not to say your referees weren't passionate of course).

I also think these references are good but maybe their reference wasn’t personal enough and to generic?

I applied last minute so I only had 2 references. One was my prof from college (not even my most recent university education), and 1 vet reference. They were both extremely strong references though and I have a pretty crazy backstory, so I think that in combination with my personal statement got me through to the interview stage!

My college (1 year certificate) GPA is 3.7
& now I’m in 3rd year undergrad, cGPA from Uni is 3.64 and my last term is 4.0

I’m also 28 years old 🙂 so definitely a more “mature” applicant. I have thousands of hours of large animal experience + I have a family farm, and 500 hrs small animal

I had a shelter DVM, a PI I researched under (PhD/MD), a chemistry professor, my boss from a dog grooming salon I work at, an RVT, and the manager of a volunteer thing I did for a few years.

how’d you apply to vmcas with only 2? It usually doesn’t let you submit without at least 3

Can anyone who interviewed last year/knows someone who did confirm that it is actually a full day thing? 9am-5:30pm like the email says?

Hey guys! I got an interview invite for Edinburgh as someone who applied through VMCAS!!! Only thing... it's actually in Edinburgh and not New York/San Francisco... I guess they had a lot of applicants this year from the US, it'll be fun to make a trip out of it though hopefully if I can afford it!

Omg?? I'd email them just to confirm that this wasn't a mistake allocation!

Anyone know what registration open and close is on the day of the San Francisco interview? And what is happening after the interviews until 5:30pm?

Wasn’t a mistake sadly! They emailed me back to confirm, they said this is the first year they’ve had to do interviews for US residents in Edinburgh!
Lol that’s kind of insane they expect people to pay to fly internationally for an interview that may or may not end in an acceptance. As someone who would not be able to afford this, it’s seemingly a classist move on their part but I digress 🥸 good luck!!!

How interesting. I agree with Cowrscool... it would be much more convenient to have an interview in the US. Maybe you can make a fun trip out of it 🥲 Congratulations on an interview, nonetheless!

Agreed! It's not fair for applicants to be expected to pay to fly out there, get lodging, etc. Hopefully I'll be able to find a cheap flight 😭Either way thank you! Good luck to the rest of you as well!

hi! i interviewed last cycle in san francisco (was rejected but i digress) ! it ended around 3 pm ish for me! there were two interview groups, and i was in the second group -- ppl in the first group could leave earlier once they finished (~2 pm)! i think some interview dates had three groups though, which may have caused their interview to end around 530 pm! also, edinburgh usually publishes their admissions statistics for the cycle by october, but for some reason they haven't put the 2024 statistics in -- has anyone been able to locate the newly updated stats??

Freaking out about this interview…. Specifically the practical task and numeracy task. Does anyone know what these mean/ how we can prepare for them???

So the interview has 7 10 minute stations... Does this mean we will have to talk for like 7 minutes if we get to read the prompts in 3 minutes?

If I recall correctly the numeracy task was a straightforward drug calculation so as long as you remember how to multiply and divide you're okay. I think the practical task was just to see how well you followed instructions. It's been 5 years now since I interviewed but they were all very friendly and super kind. I was terrified of the MMI but overall it went well and they were lovely.

Hello - I am a U Ednburgh hopeful and wondering about how to complete the FAFSA application. Is the 5 year degree considered a graduate degree, professional degree or undergraduate degree when appying to the FAFSA? VetMed is considered a professional degree / graduate degree in the US but is classified as an undergrad degree at U Edinburgh. Also, I have already completed an undergrad degree prior to applying to vet school, not sure if that makes a difference. I appreciate any advice!

Hi! was wondering what days yall's interviews are on in New York! Mine is for February 10th I believe and I am very excited.

Wasn’t a mistake sadly! They emailed me back to confirm, they said this is the first year they’ve had to do interviews for US residents in Edinburgh!
I hope you have a passport. That can take a few weeks but can be expedited

It should be classified as a Graduate level degree, especially if you already have an undergrad degree, so you would apply for Graduate loans through FAFSA. I think all of the AVMA-accredited UK vet school programs are considered Graduate level under FAFSA, despite it being a different level in the UK.

The interview was really not that bad. You don't need prior knowledge to complete either the practical task or numeracy task. One of the stations was open file. Everyone was really nice so at the end of the day, take a deep breath and just be yourself!
What do you mean by open file? Congrats on completing the interview!!!

Amazing - thank you - this is super helpful!!!
