If Canadians apply to a US school through EDP, does that restrict applications to Canadian schools as well? Just wondering how much OMSAS and AAMC communicate with each other ... Could you still go through the application process with Canadian schools even if you were lucky enough to get EDP?

EDP precludes further application to LCME schools (that includes Canada). Before making a decision that might seriously reduce your chances elsewhere, you should consult officials at the school where you are considering EDP to assess the strength of your application.

AMCAS states:
To apply through the EDP, applicants must follow these guidelines:

  • Apply to only one U.S. medical school by the stated deadline date (August 1 for schools that participate in AMCAS);
  • Not to apply through the EDP if they have already submitted an initial or secondary application (AMCAS or non-AMCAS) to a U.S. medical school for the current entering class.
  • Attend only this school if offered a place under the EDP.

That's right.
It is also true that schools can delay your decision until October, thus putting an EDP candidate at a distinct disadvantage at other schools.
