Its called washing your hands, as s. aureus is part of our normal skin flora.

There are many drugs that kill different strains of staph

Nafcillin does a good job against MSSA

Vancomycin is a standard treatment for MRSA

Daptomycin retains activity against VRSA: Vancomycin resistant.

as for daptomycin resistance- it started to show up in 2005 and I truly have no idea what to give for that.

For Daptomycin resistance (Of which there are only a handful of cases, most of which seem to have been pre-existing bacteriacidal resistances), wouldn't Doxycycline or Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (Septra?) also be considered?

Resistance to tetracyclines and SMX/TMP is fairy easy to create. If the bug is resistant to daptomycin, it's likely to have resistance (or soon will) to the other two.

Linezolid and quinupristin/dalfopristin are options, as is the new ceftibiprole (not on the market in the U.S. yet). If all else fails, chloramphenicol is the Alamo option.

Bacteria will always find a way to survive. We've just got to stay one step ahead of the curve.
