Well I was all set on going to AECOM in August until Friday afternoon when I received a phone call from the dean of admissions at a school I had been waitlisted at ( I knew I would be b/c I was interviewing after the class had already been filled). Anyways, I was surprised to hear that she was offering me a spot in the class as well as a partial scholarship which would put the total price at about 100 K less than what it will cost me at Einstein. I was willing to pay the extra money over my state school to go to Einstein, but now that they have cut the tuition in half for me.... the decision seems a bit more difficult. ANY suggestions would be much appreciated. 😕

It makes a difference which is your state school. If its truly 100k less(look at the numbers carefully) then by all means go for it unless you really have your heart set on Einstein and feel your state school would be a let down.

I agree. "Look at the numbers carefully" = make sure you add up the $ for car, gas, insurance, housing rent, etc. I was debating between my state school and Einstein and I calculated that with all the expenses I'd have attending my state school (i.e. car lease, insurance, GAS, off-campus housing rent, utilities, etc) it only came out to be around $9K cheaper than Einstein per year for me.

It sure would help to know school number 2. Or you can just listen to our baseless advice.

I have looked at the numbers carefully. Using the quoted budgets for each year (which seem to be fairly accurate) it turns out to be about 50k for Einstein and with the aid i will be receiving from my state school, UMDNJ-Robert Wood would cost me about 28k a year. Originally it was 50k at AECOM vs. about 38k at RWJ and I was only considering going to Einstein, but 10k a year does seem to be a significant amount... 😕

I would go to RWJ if I were you. 100K saved is a lot more money than you think, considering the interest you will be paying until it is paid off. So you are actually considering a difference in costs of more than 100 grand. Not to mention, RWJ is a pretty reputable medical school and although AE has a great name, it is not worth giving up all that money. If you were considering going to a top ten as opposed to RWJ, that would be one thing. But you are considering a decent state school vs an expensive private school with a pretty good reputation, but a reputation that may not be worth $100,000.

rwj is a strong school and you are getting $$.
but if $$ isnt a big concern for you, and you really want to go to einstein then go.

but there must have been a reason you stayed on the WL for RWJ right? I mean it wasnt just to see if you could get in was it?
