I thought it'd be a good idea to have a thread for those of us who are following the 10week EK study schedule to ask questions about the books, the lecture q's, the exams, the mini-MCATs, or the 1001 series. This way our questions will be consolidated into one thread and hopefully most of us are moving along at about the same pace. We'll probably get a faster response than if we post at examkrackers.com

anyways it's 230 AM on the East Coast here and I'm reading Bio Lecture 2 🙁 my bed looks so inviting too

So, since I am doing the Kaplan class, I am not following the "weekly schedule" but I am trying to cover the topics that Kaplan goes over each week, from the EK stuff. Good/ok idea? Shouldn't hinder the productivity of it, should it ?

Any comments anyone?

Are you guys doing the 1001 Q's first before doing the 30-minute exams?

well, atleast I dont do them. i have all fridays dedicated to all the 1001 questions from each topic and when i m done with that i hit the 16 mini MCATs

Thankz n Good luck

Wow, you can finish all the 1001 Q's for each topic in one day?!! I always seems to get stuck on Physics and some Gen. Chem Problems but Orgo and Bio are ok.

i meant every third problem in each subject for that specific week.

i'm trying to follow it...but are any of you guys getting burnt out yet? i'm soooo tired already...i feel like i am constantly reading about physics and bio.

they lied about the "2-3" hours per day thing, right? cos it takes me like half a day to finish.

hmm, that was a pretty depressing post...perhaps i should stop taking practice verbal tests....they make me sad.

okay, off to physics...again. 😴

:luck: to you guys studying right now!

:raises hand:

The material bores me to tears.

I'm still pretty inconsistent when it comes to the 30-minute exams.....doing pretty well in the Bio section, but up and down in physical science. I was really bummed in the beginning, but I figure the more I learn from them the better I'll be when it comes to the AAMC FL's. Yeah, but I agreee with Brett this stuff bores me to death.

Hey Brett, since I've noticed from your other posts that you've been doing well in your practice tests, can you give me some tips on how to tackle the PS section. Anyone else can jump in too.

I would first want to know what you are missing on full lengths.

Mostly Gen Chem or Mostly Physics
Mostly Calculational or Mostly Conceptual

does anyone else think the physics in class exams have been really rough?

Yea, I personally thought so too, but Brett and whitehair think that it is easier than 30 min.
I haven't gotten to 30 min yet. 1001 is more doable IMO.
On the other hand, Kaplan topicals 😱

oh, the ones i meant were the 30 min in class exams... not the lecture questions

The in class exams are the 30 minute exams.

I agree about the kaplan topicals.

# 26 in EK 1001 physics.

So they tell us that the speed is 1 m/s

Then they need to find the acceleration, so they need the velocity.

I dont understand how the change in velocity as 2 m/s.
I mean I can't think about this intutively and I don't see a formula either. I know they just added the initial velocity and the final velocity. But it just doesnt make sense to me, as to why would they ADD and then not divide it by 2? Because I thought the average velocity is (Vo+Vf)/2

I get the rest of the problem, just not how they came up with the value of velocity. Someone please explain me this.
Thanks

nevermind, I figured it out.

I took the In Class Exam #3 for physics last night and got about 8 questions right. Really felt like crying and giving up but I am back at it again this morning. I think I need a month long vacation after this is over.
I am also contemplating buying the 1001 Physics questions book but I am not sure if it is a waste of money at this point (probably wont get here until late next week). Any thoughts? Is it really helping anyone who is struggling with the Physics stuff as much as I am?
I already worked through Schaum's Outline's MCAT physics book last month before starting the EK schedule and my physics scores are still horrid.
Any tips would be really appreciated.

Don't worry, I didn't do amazing on that one either. The 1001 book helps me a lot. It is just extra practice!

1001 physics questions is a godsend to me. i'm not so great at physics and plus it comes within 3 days to where i live. all my EK stuff came within 2 days, ithink the standard 10 buck shipping thing they do guarantees it comes faster than the usual 5-9 business days

Yeah, I had mine rushed. They really take their time with the standard delivery.

where are you guys ordering your books from? when i got mine from amazon, all of mine came within 2 days with free supersaver shipping or whatever it's called (the free shipping if you buy more than 25 dollars worth of stuff)

I got mine from Amazon too. I got the overnight shipping, although I was offered that free supersaver shipping. I have done the free shipping before, but it always took too long to get here. You are lucky!

I need your opinions guys..

I took April 05 MCAT and got 27. I mainly studied using EK books and also TPR books for Gen. Chem and used TPR's science workbook.

I am hoping to take August MCAT. However, this time around, I couldn't spend 2 and half months preparing for it. Instead, I am taking the whole month of July and study full time for MCAT.

I am wondering if it would be the most optimum if I just go with the EK 10 week schedule. That way, for me..4 weeks in July will translate to effectively 8 weeks and then two weeks in August.

I like the TPR materials..but too much stuff to go through. I would love to hear some comments/suggestions about how I can best utilize this 4 weeks.

Thanks,
S.

dude i'm being hosed then. i order mine straight from examkrackers.com where its like mandatory 10 dollar shipping added on. and it comes within 2 days. amazon...shoulda thought of that but maybe it wouldnt have come on time then.

Anyone else take the EK #1g FL yesterday. I got my a** kicked but am beginning to expect that.
I am saving my AAMC practice tests for closer to the real thing and hopefully they will be much better or I will consider not taking the August test.

Is anyone else trying to get ahead in the schedule? Im trying to double up on the lectures at least one day of the week, so i'll have more time for reviewing troubling concepts. Are you also following the designated break days, cause im not. I'll have a nice long 60 day break after aug 18th.

ha, I wish I could get ahead. I'm still behind! The in-laws are here too...so that definitely doesn't help the studying time!

pet peeve: gen chem 1001 q's book does not have a periodic table in the front.

also, i'm not really liking how EK explains the action potential.

just wondering, do you guys think the 1001 books are helpful? I feel like I should get them but I don't know if I have enough time . What do you guys think? Right now I have the complete study package, audio osmosis, 101 passages, and I'm gonna get all the AAMC exams and take them by august. Do you think that's enough or should I get the 1001 books?

Just my opinion but I think 1001 books are only good if you need help on the basic concepts. If you are scoring 10 (or even 11)+ on the EK in class exams I doubt you need them. I however score between 7-9 on the in class exams and so am doing 1001 problems like crazy.
I also think 101 Verbal passages is probably the best verbal review out there if vebal is one of your weaknesses (like it is for most people). I have also used Kaplan and Gold Standard verbal questions and EK is much, much harder and a better prep.

I was just gonna reply with a similar message. I think if you are getting 10+ in the in class exams, I am not sure how helpful 1001 series books are. However, I must say, the 1001 biology book is pretty good. It's passage based unlike the other books.

I am following "home study schedule on steroid" (4 week full time). I haven't taken many in-class exams yet. But I took the 30 min. exams for physics 1 and 2. I found exam for Lect 2 to be really really difficult. The worst thing is that I don't think it was a matter of not understanding the materials. Anyone felt Physics Lect 2 30 min exam was difficult?

Take care all and good luck!

Luckycharm,
I also think that EK's way of explaining action potential sucks. I went on-line to see a visual animation and they explain it in a whole different way.

I feel like all the lecture exams are difficult. I definitely understand the concepts, I just think they ask questions about things they didn't go over or they just ask them in a really, really ambigious way.

um does anyone else think 1001 bio is really hard? i'm still on lecture 1 questions... but... 😱

It's 5:30...let's see how much studying I can get done today and the rest of the weekend. Anyone else studying their TPR book this Fri? :luck:

I was wondering how you guys get access to the EK in class exams?? I am planning in using EK and just curious. thankss

I was wondering the same thing, maybe check out their site? I heard that their tests are most accurate second to aamc.

The in-class exams are different than the actual FL EK exams. I don't think that they have the in-class ones online.

i am just curious guys, To those who are currently following Ek 10 week schedule or are register for Ek Courses which lecture are you guys up to as of today (July 8th) ?

for example: i m currently up to BIO lecture 5, Chemistry lecture 4, Physics lecture 5, and almost done with Orgo 1.

thanks guyss.

I'm done with the verbal lectures, going to do orgo 1, physics 4, bio 4, and chem 3 next week.

are you ahead?

Hey Broccoli yeah i m ahead by 1 week. yeah i m also done with Verbal. i want to be atleast ahead by 1 week so i will get more time to practice the materials i guess.

so are you just doing the lectures/q's/in class exams or are you supplementing with the 1001 books and the mini mcat books as well?
