I thought it'd be a good idea to have a thread for those of us who are following the 10week EK study schedule to ask questions about the books, the lecture q's, the exams, the mini-MCATs, or the 1001 series. This way our questions will be consolidated into one thread and hopefully most of us are moving along at about the same pace. We'll probably get a faster response than if we post at examkrackers.com

anyways it's 230 AM on the East Coast here and I'm reading Bio Lecture 2 🙁 my bed looks so inviting too

so are you just doing the lectures/q's/in class exams or are you supplementing with the 1001 books and the mini mcat books as well?

i m doing the lecture questions but not the in-class exams ( i m keeping those for the IN CLASS lol) and with 1001 i am up to it with Physics and Inorganic chem. my 1001 BIO didnt come yet so i m still waiting for that and 1001 in ORGO i ma do it tonite or tommorw early morning i guess. and 101 verbal i did the 1st two exams.

flushingfinest, that's pretty impressive. i'm having a hard time just keeping up; it takes me a while to really understand the concepts. I'm hoping that I can finish 1 week early also so that I can try to focus on any weak spots I may have by the time I'm done studying, but I don't know if that'll happen. I'm going to take a practice test today (4r), wish me luck!

Ok...so I've started counting down. This is day 4/45. Slowly making progress. I just want to learn all the stuff so that I can start taking practice exams. :meanie:

Good luck i m sure you'll krack the damn test!! 🙂

What is every one doing to prepare for the writing section? The EK schedule does not mention writing practice AT ALL and so far I have been completely ignoring it. I don't even write essays when I take practice tests (bad I know). I was contemplating waiting until the last week (the zen week where there is just review time) to go over them but that seems a bit last minute. I have heard your writing scores do not matter to med schools which is why I have not worked on it.
Any thoughts on this out there?

I am in the same boat as you. I have not practiced writing at all yet.

EK 1001 physics 303,

Anyone know why the torque due to the weight of the board i e 0.2*3* g is in the clockwise direction?

I kept thinking it was anticlockwise, because it is on the left side of the center of gravity. Anyone know the logic here?

😳

I didn't prep for it at all outside of understanding the directions and just reading a few of the ones they have posted on the AAMC website to get familiar with the kind of prompts that would be asked.

mm nevermind, I figured it out.

hey luckycharms sorry havent got chance to change my lil picture here on left. i will do it after aug 19 ahaha anyways... i m actually done with electrochem ( last chapter) of gen chem. yeah it was hard, but i m gonan go over it quickly again.. i m also done with physics optics stuff. just got popluation chapter left in Biology and Lecture 4 lect in Orgo ( which i m not really worried about). good luck.

okay, so i got really lazy when i was reviewing...i just went through all the chapters and did the lecture questions...now i'm going back and doing the 30 min in-class exams....OMG they are killing me!!!

i took a full length exam last week and got a 10 in PS and a 9 in BS...but i get like 5 and 6's on these in-class exams. ouch!

are you guys just doing the in-class ones to say that you did them? i just find them so incredibly different than the actual mcat that i'm starting to question their value.

me too. I am thinking about spending that time on AAMC stuff instead. Not sure yet what I am gonna do. I have done them all up to week 7. I am def gonna get caught up on all my 1001 questions...I think those really help me.

The in-class lecture exams were definitely hard, but they were meant to teach. If you don't do them, I feel you're losing out on the studying material. I went back and looked over the details of each question, whether I got it right or wrong, and I learned a lot more from that. At least this is talking about everything besides VR, which I have no idea what's going on. I guess that's what I get when I take 3 years each for 3 different languages in high school. 🙁 Let alone the fact I speak a different language at home...

Okay, I guess I will continue to do them then...if it will get me 11's like you. 😉 Is that all you studied Williams...EK?

EK is all I have in addition to the AAMC practice exams. One word of caution, some of the physics questions are really hard in EK, but once you learn how to do them, it will only take a minute or less to solve.

None of the MCAT practice exams have had substantially as difficult questions as EK so I hope it stays that way. I hope we have a few passages on circuits and thin lenses because this is my weakest PS imo. By the way, there's a really good passage in physics about fission, rest mass energy, etc. I actually learned that subject more through that example rather than the 2 pages of text.

Tomorrow I'll go over the EK books one more time and then 5R on Tuesday! 🙂

I am actually breaking 5R up over three days. Tuesday I am doing VR and Weds BS, then PS on Thurs. I am doing the 10 week EK schedule so I have not gone through everything yet.

You actually go over all the books in one day? How do you do that dude?

Without school or having a job, you'd be surprised at how much stuff you can do in a day. I don't read the books again verbatim, but it's pretty close to being like that. I was hoping to get the Orgo or Inorgo books done today, but after going through 4R solutions, I decided not to. I really forgot the graphs of a capacitor charging and discharing!!! I'll make sure it won't happen again. 🙂

I want to be able to go back through everything, but I don't think I will have enough time. I hate when I get something down and then I don't review it for a few weeks and it pops up on a PT and I don't freakin' remember!!!

wow, how do you finish a whole book in a day...i'm not doing anything during the day either, but still...i can barely get through the notes i took in a day...maybe it's because i'm bored of the material...you can read about torque only several times before you want to rip off your eyelashes!

also, how do you guys go through the 1001? i'm still stuck on like week 3/4 stuff in all of them...they are soo time-consuming...i've finally given up on doing every problem and started picking and choosing which ones i wanted to do.

i don't know...i don't have another full length "scheduled" until wednesday...i kinda want a break until then...i just took one yesterday...

  I never really took notes, I just made flashcards. I'm not even a huge fan of the flashcards, but with my job (EMT) I find it easy to pull them out a flip through them while I am waiting in the hospitals and stuff.

There are only about 5 lines on torque in EK! LOL!!! It really makes you that upset? One thing I still don't understand is the lecture exam for torque on lever arms. They showed 4 human arms, still don't get it.

I went through bio surprisingly fast today. More than I thought I could compared to last time. I need to keep remembering that rRNA is TRANSCRIBED in the nucleolus, NOT translated. Okay, now that I wrote it out, I think I got it down. 🙂

Tomorrow I will take 5R hopefully starting around 10 or noon. I really am hoping VR gets better for me.

The arm is suppose to be like a lever arm and the elbow is the point of rotation. It was looking for that 90* angle. 😉

okay okay, i exagerrated...torque doesn't really make me that mad...it was just the first thing that came to mind! haha but that potential energy...damn...

haha

okay, off i go to take 5 lecture exams...one from each subject! whee!!!!
