hello everyone

Acually this is very important to me , so anyone who know even a small info. pls tell me ..

I'm a 3rd year foreign medical std. , and i want to make an elective course in USA during summer in neurology , and this summer is the only free time i will have till my 6th year . So , can you pls give the names of universities with good elective courses that can accept std. who just finish their 3rd year .

Pls don't ignore this request bcz it's very important to me

Thank you very much

You need to contact the places that you are interested in doing a rotation. Our school doesn't allow FMGs to do electives or observerships but some places will accept you. It is up to you to do the research and to make the arrangements. Also keep in mind that you may need to purchase your own malpractice insurance to rotate and that some places will confine your rotations to specific months out of the year. Get busy on Google.

hello everyone

Are you in a program that is the 6 years where you combine undergrad and medical school? If so I doubt you can find an elective in the US til 6th year even if a US school always internationals to do an away elective there.

In the US only 4th year students can do electives away- 3rd year is clerkships at your home institution only. So if you have 3 years left in school I doubt anyone will let you in a neuro rotation til you are in your last year.

A lot of American students at my university start doing their rotations in the US from the 4th year on (they do it during the 4th, 5th, and 6th years). And you obviously need to have your Step 1 scores prior to applying. Secondly, some schools mandate tuition fees whereas others don't (except for the application fee).

thank you guys for your help .
In my school of medicine we study 6 years , during which we have an obligatory elective course btw the 5th and 6th year , and we can take it in any part of the world . Another obligatry research course during the 6th year . But when i searched for my future specialization , I found that many schools require 2 research and elective courses , and the upcoming summer is the only free time i have .
Another important thing to say, is that we do start clinical practice, physical examination and history taking from the 3rd year not the 4th , also I did a voluntary job in the Emergency department , so I have good emergency skills .

What about research courses , can I do any ??

I don't know how it all works but I rotated at JFK in edison, NJ for neurology and their a rotation site for st george's univ in the islands. I had a fantastic rotation and would easily do it again. also there's a foreign student doing research at USF in tampa, FL. call these places and check. good luck!
