Hello everyone,
I was wondering if some of you can recommend a list of elective rotations that a final year PM&R resident can do?.
I know that choosing the electives depends on ones interests.
Some of the electives that I can think of are Rheumatology, Orthopedics, Muskuloskeletal/Neuro radiology, Anesthesia with some time in procedures suit, Orthopedics, Neurology, Hospice care etc........
I thought if we could come up with a comprehensive list, it can help other/future residents.

try doing a search on that topic - we've had threads on what electives during intern year and PGY4 year are useful. I think all that you've mentioned, plus pulmonary, cardiology, urology, and neurosurg were mentioned.

thats all great - in those whose program permits elective- how many electives does a senior typically get. Mine does not have electives. 🙁

lucyz02, i think axm must have meant "MS4" instead of "PGY4" above. and you're asking about "PGY4" electives during residency right? sorry, can't help you there...my program doesn't have electives as well. i'm gonna have to get my own malpractice insurance and not get paid for a month in order to do a sports/spine rotation during my PGY3or4.

sorry - I must have a major case of senioritis. Meant to say MS4 not PGY4.

I totally misunderstood the OP's question.

For PGY4 year - we have electives and 2 selectives at RIC. for selectives, we can do neuro (various clinics - muscular dystrophy, MS, neuropathy, etc.), Ortho (incl OR time), day rehab, and rehab clinic. For electives, we can do anything. people have done neuroradiology, anesthesia pain, EMGs w the "gurus" in the field like Dr. Wersch(sp in Milwaukee), etc., MSK with ppl like Heidi Prather, and whatever else people have interests in.

This is a topic related to how your program actually funds it's resident salaries. Sadly PM&R is made up of a lot of haves and have nots, so while the Kesslers, Spauldings, RICs, and Mayos have electives, most state schools do not, particular those based in socioeconomically challenged regions.
