Just graduated from a DO school about to start a TRI (I think I discussed this turn of events in a previous post a little while back but I'm HPSP scholarship got deferred for intern year). Was shooting for EM but recently decided the TRI is a good thing as I realized I do not want to do EM for a career and I'm very strongly considering Psychiatry at this point. Just found out I have an IM selective my first month. My choices are: cardiology, gastro, infectious disease, neurology, pulm, hem/onc, nephro, and general IM. I'm thinking neurology at this point. What do you guys think?

Neurology is most useful from a psychiatry perspective if your school didn't have you do it as a core rotation. I did nephro, cardio, heme/onc, and I.D. electives as a student and don't regret doing any of them. Heme/Onc was the least useful.

Cardiology was probably the most useful after Neuro to me throughout residency. I was asked to read tons of EKGs on call frequently at a free standing psychiatric hospital. It was nice having enough confidence in reading EKGs to know when and when it was not necessary to ask for a consult.
