Hey i'm just about to enter 3rd year med school at UWI Mona (Caribbean) and will be given options to do 5week electives in spring 2013.
I was just curious as to how feasible is this idea? I will be going to visit my relatives in Tottenham and thought that I would just do the electives there in the UK to perhaps improve my chances by even 1% to one day get into a residency program (preferably Neuro) in the UK.
Are there any schools you suggest I look into?
And will electives give me a greater chance at getting into a program at that respective hospital?
I would really appreciate your advice,
Do you by chance know anyone working in UK from the Caribbean?

If I'm not mistaken the UK doesn't do a "residency" like in the United States. They do 2 foundation years. Which are like year-long internships that you apply for each year. After FY2 you can apply to specialize.

I think you'll have trouble doing a UK internship if you don't have European citizenship though, but that doesn't mean it's impossible. I just don't know too much about it. You'll also have to check and see that the UK recognizes your medical degree. Keep in mind you can apply to Scotland's NHS too which is different from England's NHS (although I think Wales is grouped in with England).
