Okay, i'm having a mental block on this. How does one calculate that 2.00 g of pure carbon when oxidized would yield 7.33 g CO2? Is something else that needs to be known? Does it have something to do with the proportion of C to O2?

Atomic mass of oxygen is 16, of carbon - 12. A CO2 molecule will be (12 + 16 + 16)/12 times heavier than just a plain C atom. In your case you have (12+16+16)/12*2g=(3+4+4)*2/3=22/3=7.33...g
