Hey SDN,

So i'm a transfer student at UC Davis. My first quarter my GPA was 3.3 but after my second & third it went down to a 2.4. I had trouble with depression and a health scare that preoccupied my mind. However, now that the health scare is over and the depression is being dealt with my GPA has been increasing significantly. Although, the increase is great-n-all but most likely the best I can bring it up to is a 3.3-3.4. I'm aware that its subpar but do dental schools take into consideration the steady increase they see and acknowledge diligent work ethic.

I'm scared I messed up my GPA too much. Does anyone have experience with a few bad quarters and triumphed into dental school?

A 3.3-3.4 definitely isn't high, but it isn't really low you would probably be able to get interviews with that assuming everything else is good.

They take into account everything, but I would be hesitant to mention depression to them.

I feel like going from a 2.4 to a 3.4 is extremely challenging to do. Most students I know don't recover as well. I hope they will notice the hard work.

There's always an SMP and DAT to boost your chances, I got in with 3.0 ugpa, but stood out b/c my 3.89 SMP gpa with 23AA. Make the sacrifice you'll get there.

Its okay to have a bad semester or year. We are humans after all. You can use this situation to your advantage to improve you GPA in an upward direction. Just explain yourself in your personal statement as to why you performed poorly and how you overcame this obstacle in your life.

Wow, good job! thanks for the advice.

Too little information and no DAT score. Keep working, keep grades up. Always have a plan B.

Definitely will, thanks. I'll update this post once I take the DAT and hopefully reach the 3.4 gpa mark.
