Emergency! UAB secondary won't recognize my letters!

Hi everyone,

I know this is probably not the best way to do this but I am so desparate. I had already completed most of my secondary during the week and listed the letter numbers I am using. The system said it didn't recognize the letters and I figured it was because I hadn't "released" them yet in AMCAS. So I took care of that, resubmitted, etc. and when I went back this morning to add in my last few essays the entire secondary including photo had been deleted from the system.

I redid everything and finished at 11:50 (they're due today, or now yesterday) and it still won't recognize my letters. I'm freaking out. This is my first choice school and I don't know what to do.

Hmm...well I didn't apply to UAB but I would say that you're best bet is to call the admissions office first thing tomorrow. Explain that your letters are assigned and you filled out the entire secondary (twice) but were having this problem. It's probably just something technical and they'll either fix it or tell you how to fix it yourself. Did you read the UAB thread on here? I haven't, but perhaps someone else has had this happen to them and posted about how they resolved it. Anyone that has applied to UAB have any additional suggestions?

doesn't it usually take schools a few days(sometimes weeks) to reflect changes onto their online systems?

Also, when did you assign your letters? For most schools once you assign them they are automatically downloaded the next business day. UAB could work differently, but I'm guessing that they must actually receive them before that would be reflected in their system and therefore be recognized for your secondary. If you just assigned them yesterday that may be why it's not recognizing your letters. Just a thought.

Hi everyone, this is sooo stressful.

To tallandshort, I've looked through the UAB thread and nothing is posted. I've also posted to FB and tried every friend I know plus my brother who is an MS1 there with no luck. I assigned the letters earlier today. Maybe that's the problem. From what I had read I thought that this was all pretty much instantaneous. Partly because as soon as someone posts a letter to AMCAS for you it's automatically updated and we're notified. I guess I shouldn't have assumed. I went ahead and emailed the school to cover my bases and will be calling admissions in the morning, even though it says we can only contact them through their email. They give themselves three days for emails though and I don't have that kind of time.

To dingyibvs, I don't know. My experience with UAB's (reapplicant) is that it's very quick. Maybe a server is down or something.
