I am applying to OBGYN residencies this coming fall, and wanted to know if anyone had any information about the programs at Emory in Atlanta, or Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. I am doing rotations at both these places, has anyone out there rotated through these? If so, any advice? Also, the grapevine has labeled the Miami program as "toxic", can anyone give credence or dipute this?

Thanks,

Juan

I did an ob/gyn rotation at Emory. It is one of the places that I am definately NOT wanting to go. The residents are (for the most part) unhappy. They are not necessarily overworked but they complain and whine nonstop. They don't get along with each other -- they talk so much smack behind each other's backs. They are just mean to each other, each person only looking out for him/herself. The 4 classes all hate each other it seems. I RARELY saw an attending. The residents are pretty much thrown out there into Grady. They are really considered a "mid-tier" program (although the residents think they are top notch since they fall under the Emory name). This was even told to me by 2 of the attendings. Let me know if you have any questions...

Hopefully you'll like Miami! 😉

Dear obgyn06

Thanks again for the reply. What rotation did you do there? Where are you wanting to go now? Other than the residents, what else did you not like about there? If I end up doing what advice would you give?

Thanks,

Juan
