Anybody get this from Emory? It's basically a brochure for their anes. asst. program. They say I received it b/c I took the MCAT. Hope this doesn't foreshadow impending doom... 😉

don't worry, it doesn't mean anything. i got a 35 on the april test and they sent me one, too. idiots.

for anyone interested ...my sister graduated from the program. It is a two year program and you graduate with a masters degree. You pretty much do the same things as an gas MD would. There is a shortage in the job market and thus huge signing bonuses..up to 20000. Average salary after working a few years with call every couple of months is 100,000-150,000. In Atlanta, grady was hiring for 165,000. Pretty sweet deal.

Yeah, I got it yesterday and threw it away... not what I want to do but a cool job anyway.

That's a sweet deal for those people out there who don't want to spend the money or time on med school (and don't want to take the MCAT). Not what I want to do, but that's a lot of money for two years of education! 🙂

Yah, that's my other point, though I didn't want to say it. I'd feel inferior too. I'd think you'd be receiving orders from anesthesiologists, who make about 300K a year. I just think it's weird that they sent out that piece of mail to people planning on going to medical school....its kinda like, well, if you didn't make it to med school, here's a good back-up option. Does that sound snobby?

I got it; I thought it a little weird that a medical school would send it out - almost "competition" for my dollars...

Good point, Noobs. I thought the paper was real nice.

AA aren't legally allowed to work unless they have an anesthesiologist supervising. It's the CRNAs that are allowed to work independently in some states. They roll in the bank too.

Yea, I got the letter too. I did some research and it looks like the licensing may be equivalent to CRNAs. I'm not certain. For six years less time than Med, that's good money.

Do they make more money than Physician Assistants?

I would guess the money is similar. The hours are probably better. PA can switch to various specialties and many times do mid-career, from the quick reading I did.

AAs are actually a type of PA. However, they are highly specialized and thus make significantly more
