Anyone accepted to Emory out there in SDN land? If so, what'd you think about the school, Atlanta, Grady etc. Any thoughts on the subject would be most appreciated!

Yup, accepted in december. I go to school in atlanta, and I've shadowed at grady. I love grady, and I think it would be an awesome place to get your clinical training. I got to see some amazing stuff there. It's not like most hospitals at some top med schools where the rooms look like suites (NWern, cleveland clinic), but the diversity of the underserved patient population is pretty amazing. My interviewer at Duke mentioned that grady was having significant financial issues. I know just about all public hospitals have problems with money, but I wondering if anyone else knew anything more about this. I know nothing about Emory University Hospital or Crawford Long. Atlanta is a really easy city to live in. I've never met anyone that doesn't really like Atlanta. Public transportation is not so good since atlanta's so spread out, but I guess it could be worse. If you have any questions about atlanta, just let me know and I'll be glad to help. 🙂

Grady has had financial problems, but most public (county) hospitals do.

However, the relationship between Emory and Grady goes back almost a 100 years, if not more, and has great historical ties. And this will not hinder clinical education at any level for the students and will not necessarily lower healthcare, as Emory physicians staff the majority of the hospital (with another med school in the area supplying the other other physicians). Emory students will still be exposed to a plethora of cases and will get an extraordinary clinical education -- as they always have been getting.

Congrats on your admission to Emory!
