I'm taking a few summer classes in July, and want to include them in my GPA calculations... and am applying for 2012 cycle.

I'm worried that since the application opens in July, I won't be super early applying in the end of August.. I also am still taking one last pre-requisite course in the Fall.

When is it considered "late?".. By December I'll have my last pre-requisite done..as well as one of my letters of rec (for the schools that require a letter STRICTLY from a science prof) So even if my application isn't 'officially' complete until later, and I indicate the incoming grades on OptomCas.. would I still be in the "early" batch? How does this work-- would they just put my incomplete app 'aside' until I submit the remaining information but still consider me earlier, and give me an advantage, over someone who applies later than me but has their application complete?

Thanks!

Meh August isn't late, and there is no early batch. If you're a good candidate they will offer you, if you're borderline they'll make you wait till the real last minute applicants apply ie. December or later. I applied late February - early March and there were multiple schools that extended interviews and offers.

tl;dr
Apply early as you can, but don't stress about it... unless you're gpa is under 3.0 AND OAT under 300 AND you are applying on Feb 28... lol

I had sub-3.0 GPA and a 330 OAT and I applied to my last school on Feb 15 and got into all of the ones I applied "late" for.

You'll probably be okay, but you should ask the schools if they would prefer you submit your application earlier and just have them wait to receive the letter of rec or if they would rather you wait so that you could submit a complete application all at once.

I too am in the same boat; is it possible to constantly update and save the optomcas online application throughout the time that you apply or will you have to fill it all out, submit it whole, and not be able change things on it after it has been submitted... or how does the application actualy work? It would really help to know a little more about it from someone who has gone through the process before, anything helps.🙂

Thanks!

Once your application has been submitted, there's no going back. In December, you're allowed to enter in fall semester grades but that's about it I think.

I'm in the same boat as well. My advisor has urged me to submit my application early, before my summer grades can be calculated into my GPA. It's a tough decision. Waiting that extra month would bump me from a 3.2 to a 3.35.

What would you do?
