I recently matched in ENT and interviewed at a couple of the NYC programs. In general most residency programs are competitive in NYC and ENT is no exception. However, I think that as far as major cities go, New York is not known for its strong ENT residencies. I think this is because each program has its subspecialty niche (e.g. Sinai for H&N, NYU for otology, etc.). I think Downstate is the exception being more well rounded. That being said here is a post from otomatch.com about all the NYC programs http://pub156.ezboard.com/fotolaryngologyresidencyapplicantsfrm37.showMessage?topicID=10.topic
I think the assessments here are pretty accurate. If I had to choose a program in the city, I would choose NYEE. It seemed like a well rounded program and although they are pretty clinic heavy, the residents seemed to have an exceptional operative experience. Also you can't beat the housing - $800/month for 1 one bedroom apt. basically attached to the hospital! Plus it's in a good area (14th street and 2nd Ave).
