Epidural/tfe

unfortunately, I don’t have the means to do IV sedation as I do them in an office based setting. honestly, I’ve only used po sedation once. Gave a nervous young lady two 2 mg Valium tablets, one 45 min before and the other when she got there. Patient didn’t seem to notice much of a difference. Maybe I should’ve given 5mg tabs

how does consent for the procedure work in this situation? Should the patient sign the consent at the preprocedural visit? I know a lot of people on benzos sign legal docs all the time but wasn’t sure if it was different since I was prescribing specifically for procedure related anxiety.

I disagree. It isn’t anxiety but discomfort. Plenty of times people with severe foraminal stenosis have no pain with the needle in place but jump when the contrast slowly starts flowing. Some pre-procedure hydrocodone helps those people I guess but they would still prefer an IV. I might sedate 1-2 people in a month for a TFESI.

In this case the S1 TFESI would be indicated and shouldn't be difficult for her...

here we go again...

Not my intent...I was merely saying that if this poster wants to do a TFESI but doesn't feel comfortable without sedation he/she will be fine. It is done every day in America.

oh sorry for the confusion. I would prefer to do the TFE even if I had to give oral sedation. But her insurance "required" me to do an ILESI first.
