Almost ready to submit! Next week it is due. The thing is on residency explorer I'm a lil behind on the research and publications department, matching up lower 25th percentile on their little algorithm. I know research is expected in some areas of psych, like if you want to go to academic research program, but how about just in general? I have good stats for psych, but on a lot of the programs that accept DO's, I'm finding im at target or above, except in the research and publications data. It wouldn't be that concerning if it was only a select few, but it seems like the majority of programs. I did put 0 for both publications and research with 3 letters of rec and 3 work experiences and 3 volunteer experiences. Ultimate question here is, do I fib it??

I'm sure I can come up with some extra volunteer opportunities, but I'm only including continual gigs for established organizations for a period of time. Not just a one time thing where I helped clean up a house or what not. I know some people that are including each and every event 2 hours or more. Is that necessary? Even beneficial? or Detracts and hurts the candidate?

So as far as the research goes, I do not have any publications so can't submit that. In undergrad had one research based class, but it was just a paper and presentation. No poster board even. On this rotation, doc had us doing a lil covid research side project. Nothing is gonna come of it, but just for his and hospital data. I really wish I wrote a case presentation on a lady with conversion disorder, but this was pre-covid and after hospital stopped taking students. Does anything like that count or no? Is there something else to throw in there? Or just don't sweat it and leave it empty?

Thanks for thoughts and help through my pre-submit freakout.

Even if you could whack together a manuscript to send somewhere, asking for it to be accepted in 1 week is a little steep... at this point I wouldn't stress it. What's done is done and all that's left is making sure your app is well-written and well-thought out.

I know some people that are including each and every event 2 hours or more.

that sounds like a horrible idea. it just dilutes the actual meaningful experiences.

if you don't have any significant research, then that's that. if you try to "fib it", you have to realize people have brains. they're going to see your 1 or 2 lines on publications being total BS and it will probably hurt you more than help. nobody's perfect and ticking all the boxes (or they are and are going to the top programs).
