Hi-

An attending I talked to told me I should have my career goals somewhere in my personal statement. I just put a sentence in about possibly wanting to do a fellowship in family planning or pediatric and adolescent gynecology. I think it fit in with the rest of my statement, though, because I was talking about past experiences which included working in teen/women's health clinics.

It probably doesn't matter either way...any other thoughts?

Well, if you figure one of the common interview questions is "where do you see yourself in 5-10 years" ~ thinking up an answer now and putting it in your personal statement wouldn't be a bad idea. I was told the same as kem (to talk about career goals in the personal statement) so if you see yourself doing a fellowship, I don't think it would hurt to mention it.

I'm such a deliquent. I know I should be working on that personal statement...instead, I keep taking naps!

Well, it's better than taking naps when you should be studying for step 2...

sigh... 🙁

You don't have to be specific, but do mention something! I for instance put that I like general Ob-Gyn but exploring new options is a natural part of residency and that I am always open to new options.

Good luck to all of you!
