Erratic Application, please help with school list!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Do you have a DO letter? 3.4/3.4/28 gives you a decent shot just about anywhere aside from maybe the Cali schools, AZ/CCOM, Touro-NY.

The list you have looks good though, I would add maybe 3-5 schools if you can afford it

I would be willing to bet if you applied within the first few weeks of the cycle starting that you would get multiple II assuming no red flags

the 3.4 will likely result in no II from an allo school unless you are URM.

Your list is fine. There is only one top tier school in there and its your state school so that makes sense.

Your current list got a good mix of high and low stats schools. If financial permits, I would suggest adding a few more schools to broaden your chances, particularly any of the more established schools, such as KCUMB, CCOM, ATSU-KCOM, RowanSOM. You could also throw in a few schools with lower tuition like LECOM. Make sure you got all your transcripts/LORs/personal statement ready on June 1st and pre-write secondary essays as soon as possible.

Your comments are encouraging. Even though many schools take the most recent score, two 22's seemed like it would really hurt.
I do have a DO letter and shadowing. What about NOVA, NYIT, DMU, and AZCOM? Are there newly opened schools for the 2015-2016 application cycle?

The two 22's will hurt, which is why you need to add some new schools. The 4 schools you listed all have quite high GPA/MCAT averages and are all established schools (with the exception of maybe AZCOM), though you could always apply to see how it works out. I don't think there is any new school accepting students in the next cycle but you could always refer to the AACOM College Information Booklet to select the schools based on your preferences for locations, eligibility, etc.

Thanks! I'm hoping @Goro will offer some advice on where I stand.

The schools on your list are good.

Contact the Deans of Admissions at the three new MD schools in MI, and Wayne state, and ask if you're competitive for them.
Should I really pursue my home MD schools or should I focus on seeing if I have a chance at higher tier DO schools? I.e. my reach school to be CCOM or wayne state? I like to think my ECs are competitive but is it enough to somewhat offset my stats?

Edit my ECs are: research assistant + one publication, year of hospital volunteering, community volunteering, two years of clinical work, americorps, social work internships, lots of leadership roles in college and in americorps, md/do shadowing + DO letter, college athlete

It depends upon whether or not you want to stay in MI. ECs will not make up for < avg MCAT scores or poor GPAs.

Call the admissions office of every single school you're interested in... Call them and explain your stats/situation (breifly and to the point) then ask them for your chances... Ask them what you can do to improve your chances... Establish repoire with people at schools NOW, and maintain contact through the application cycle... I did this, and I feel it's a HUGE reason I got 1 acceptance and 1 interview after applying to like 30 schools (I maintained contact with only one school)... i'm a borderline applicant, similar stats, aside from MCAT retakes...

@Goro can you confirm that this is useful advice?

Also, you will need the standard ECs to be competitive (ie shadowing, letter from an MD/DO, medically related volunteering, possibly research etc. + good numbers + apply to many schools and apply broadly in order to accomplish your goal

I contacted the MI MD schools asking if I would be a competitive applicant; two of them gave generic uninterested responses, but two said my experiences are competitive and encouraged me to continue and apply. Is this an indication of true interest or do many admissions counselors simply make these statements? I would like to stay in MI but assumed my stats would make applying MD a waste of money.
