First Aid says that it does


Which one is right?

IMHO, I think IgA proteases are associated with all URI bacteria, thats how they colonize mucosal surfaces. So I think First Aid is right, but I'm not sure

I agree too. I looked it up in my micro text (Sherris Medical Microbiology, 4th ed., Ch.10, p. 166)..."IgA proteases are found in the pathogenic Neisseria, Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) ..."

Lange microbio confirms HiB has IgA protease, as does pneumococcus. There are plenty of URI pathogens w/o IgA protease, and there are non URI pathogens with it. meningococcus has IgA protease too (not a respiratory pathogen). Diptheria and pertussis c. pneumoniae do not have IgA protease.
