this may be a dumb question, but i'm having a major brain fart.
your normal esophagus is covered by squamous epethilial, but in GERD you get glandular metaplasia so it's now colomnar eipthelial bc of all the acidic injury from the stomach
your normal trachea is covered by ciliated columnar epiethilial, but in smokers, you get sqaumous metaplasia so its now squamous epithelial bc you are trying to protect your trachea from all the damage of smoking.
i know that is a first semester topic, but i wanted to make sure i got it 100% correct
