Etymology of Usernames

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I got mine from the "Chappelle Show". The episode that had that skit called the Mad Real World, which was a skit about what if a white guy lived in a house with a bunch of crazy black people, the opposite of the Real World where it is usually vice versa. The one dudes name in that (Darnell Johnson) was Faze2. I just saw it and thought it was hilarious, so I've used it for a lot of things liek user names obviously since then.

dr obviously needs no explanation "kicia" means kitty in polish...the whole cat obsession comes out:laugh:...when i told my bf i want to be a doctor he called me "doctor kicia"...i kinda liked it so made it into my screen name😀

Nothing too difficult here - I love NASCAR and have been watching it and going to races since I was a kid. But I like to change my avatar every once and awhile to something different. Right now its 24 but soon I will change to something else, just don't know yet.

Gah Nascar...

The bane of my existence...😕

It was what I was wearing when I created the account.....not too exciting.

Mine is my name.

Yep same here. I'm so unoriginal!

Gotta say though, I love "spicedmanna" for a username. Kinda catchy! For some reason, it reminds me of this game I played on my SNES when I was younger called "Secret of Mana."

mine is NOT my name. everyone thinks my name is Ned, but it's really Nancy. I chose pre-med Ned because I thought...hey...Ned rhymes with pre-med. And after cracking myself up, I made it my sn. haha

My username came from the musical Annie...after the hypnotising character that used to scare me as a child. Also, I can't spell, b/c his name is "Punjab."

Vox Animo

Latin for a Voiced Mind

loosely translated

Red Beard is my second favorite Kurosawa flick after Seven Samurai...Toshiro Mifune plays Red Beard, a doctor for the poor in a feudal Japanese town. At one point he has to put the smackdown on a bunch of gangsters using his bare hands, OMM style.
You know, a bad doctor can kill you. I won’t kill you, but I might break a couple of arms or legs.

...that's brutal 👍

Cp = cool people (you remember that brand with the stick figures and the life is good on the back???)

22= Football number (meathead)
KJ = girlfriends initials
ER = my initials and some how im still with the same girl 🙂

Wow, that's awesome.
And I'm assuming you're way past the 7th grade now. 🙂

I was considering getting my GF's name, in Kanji, tattooed on my arm.
It's a very, very good thing that I didn't, now. 😉

The only "name" tattoo i have is a tiny little N on the anterior side my left wrist, it's my daughter's first initial. We're not breaking up anytime soon, i feel pretty good about that 😉

Pardon me for posting a for-fun kind of thread... For my Pre-Osteo brethren, from where did your handle originate?

This is an awesome thread. 👍

Right before I signed up for SDN, my friend 😛 had bought me one of those "So this is how the body works" books for my birthday :hardy: thinking it was right up my alley. I've probably gotten three different books like this over the last three years. I used to have a similar curse with Far Side calendars, getting one every Christmas for at least five years running. +pity+

Anyway, I came upon the term "Oculus Sinistra" :horns: in one of the first sections and I liked it for a lot of reasons: it was medically-related, the first one reminded me of "octopus" (one of my favorite words), and the idea I attributed to it -- the sinister or evil eye -- gave it a "Tell Tale Heart" spin that appealed to me.

Confused 😕 by the structure of some of the sentences in this book, I discovered that the text had been translated from some other language (Italian, perhaps?). Of course by that time I felt I had made my presence felt as "Oculus Sinistra" :horns: and didn't want to register under a new name, a decision that has rendered me several helpful reminders along the lines of, "You know that the word is supposed to be 'Oculus Sinister', right? And you want to be a doctor? You sure you don't want to be an idiot for a living?"

So yes, I know. I know there was a screenname switcheroo a little while back but I couldn't think of a name I'd prefer. Perhaps I'll change it after I get accepted somewhere 😎 (I'm applying next June)

I never gave it a lot of thought before today, but right before I read your post, I thought to myself "Sinistra" being left (like "S" designation in stereochemistry = left), that maybe you were calling yourself "Left Eye" as in Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes of TLC.

Then again, most people probably have no idea what I'm talking about when I say that. 🙂 It was just a thought - I never thought it before just now, and I probably won't again. 🙂

Don't go chasing waterfalls my friend..

Georgia Tech surprisingly is overrunned with squirrels.😛

LOL I used to have a cat named "Uszatek"

My parents adopted him (well he went for a visit and never wanted to leave). They call him Uszy but have no idea what it means - he has big ears so I thought Uszatek would be cute.

You say it best:

Are you sure you don't want to be an idiot for a living?

I registered this user name when I wanted to assassinate a troll, never bothered to register a different name. Not even sure if I took care of that troll...

Meg (my first name)
boo (Halloween b'day)

Megboo.

I must admit that every time I see the name "Megboo" I want to smile. It's just...cute. 🙂

I want to steal it and find an appropriate friend to use it on, but I don't know any Megs, or anything else that may fit. I know a Melissa, but Melboo isn't the same. 🙁

Awww... 😀

My old college sweetheart used to say it in a cute voice, too. Too bad it didn't work out. 😛

My other option was peapod, which is my husband's own nickname for me.

A great song by a great band off an unfortunately uneven album.

"I know I have said this before, but the odds of us actually playing Freebird?
There are no odds. It is not going to happen.
I will start off with the first reason. We have no idea how to play Freebird.
The second reason is. In the Love Bug's natural habitat, that would f***ing kill him and you wouldn't want that. He is f***ing adorable. He is cute.
Thirdly, even if, pick your deity, came down from the heavens or wherever or the hills or wherever the deity lives and blessed us with this vast knowledge of Freebird. And we could play it backwards and sing it backwards.
We still just wouldn't do it.
(pause)
If this were the Make A Wish Foundation and you were going to die in 20 minutes just long enough to play Freebird, we still wouldn't play it.
Here is the end reason. The end reason is that life is just too f***ing short to hear or play Freebird."

i love playing that album in my car to people who have never heard them before. By the time Satin in a Coffin is done, my passengers think that im absolutely insane. its wonderful

...though i agree that the album is uneven

That album is definitely good for the uninitiated because "Float On" is extrenely catchy.

I don't really listen to the actual albums any more; I just make mixes of the various albums. So I'll have "Dramamine" with "Bukowski" and "Third Planet" and so forth. That way I'm not skipping through tracks on uneven albums.

When I created my username I think I was still glowing from the World Series win-- you Yankees fans all remember that, right? 🙂

Ki45 is a WW2 Japanese twin engined fighter...Toryu means "dragonkiller" in Japanese, which is what the plane was named.
