As the title states:

Is it ever too early to start studying for the DAT? I am going into my third year of school, and it seems that I have about three more years until I get my BS in biology. Should I start studying for the DAT now?

If so, which book should I purchase? Advice?

Thanks

side note: I think that I may have to study extra for the DAT because I haven't gotten A's in my science courses that count toward my sGPA other than Calc.

EDIT: Sorry, I meant BS in biology....

Yes, at a certain point you're so early that you aren't really retaining much. By about 3 weeks before the test I don't think I remembered anything from when I tried to start studying about 3 months before the test. I also retain much better under pressure though. Earlier on I think the time is much better spent focusing on your classes, not only because your grades are important, but the time you spend on them is a better form of pre-studying than just reading a Kaplan book 2 years before the exam. Just my opinion. What do you mean 3 years into school and 3 years left though? You're a junior in college?

I'm curious how you can get a BA in biology. Isn't a BA an arts degree? Do you mean BSc? Actually, if you are getting an arts degree and trying to get all your prereqs it does make sense that it would take more than 4 years to graduate.

depends on the school you go to as to what your degree is

i do think studying three or four years in advance is WAY too early... normally i'd say 3 months at the most, but if you're not a science major then maybe 6 months?
but start thinking about recommendation letters, shadowing, volunteering, etc these parts are NEVER too early

the only area thats never too early to study for is Math. Anything else and its just too early. If you devote 30 minutes every day doing QR problems from today till you take the dat, you could score huge on this section. People don't realize this, but QR is added into your AA, so big QR = bigger AA

I'm in sort of in the same boat as you except I'm graduating in the normal 4 year schedule. Right now, it's the summer before my junior year and I'm studying for the DAT. Studying now (summer) in my opinion is time well spent. Since it's a while (2 years?) before you actually take the DAT, I think getting a heads up on studying and making sure that you'll do well is a good idea especially since you said you don't have a great sGPA.

Use Dentalwork's (above poster) thread on his approach to studying DAT.

Kaplan BB
Cliff's
Destroyer
Cracker
etc.

IMO its way too early to start studying. If I could go back in time I wouldnt start stressing about the DAT until 2-3 months max before the test. I think you just get burnt out worrying about it for that long. But everyone is different.

I think it's a waste of effort and time to study for the DAT if you aren't going to take it within 3 months. You will forget everything once you finish studying.
