So last Wednesday I was in a very busy store (about 3500 per week) and I got pulled away from the bench for a first fill counseling. I spoke to the lady who was obviously in distress from walking from the parking lot to the counter to pick up her prescription.

After performing my CVSly duties I inquired about how long she has experienced these symptoms and if she had a history to cardiac problems. I didn't want to scare too much, but I forcefully requested she call her physician. I called her a few hours later and since there was no answer, I called her PCP and explained what I observed. This lady was obviously in CHF.

So long story short she ends up in the hospital in CHF with her heart enlarged and they tell he if she had waited much longer she probably would have died. She called the store on Monday (I wasn't there) to thank me.

So those of you who think you can't be clinical pharmacist in a retail setting, you are kidding yourself. It's up to you to use the skills you have no matter where you practice......

it's probably all in her head
