I was accepted off the waitlist by phone last Tuesday (May 16th). They had to change my address on the paperwork before they sent it out, and I received it yesterday evening (May 23rd). Hope that helps!

Big Fat Congrats to You, Madi! 👍

Would you mind saying how long you have to accept or decline EVMS's acceptance? Thanks.

Has anyone heard how the movement is going overall? Especially for the few out of state positions in the class? Hmm? 😳

Thanks 🙂

You have 10 days from the receipt of the paperwork to get your deposit into their office.

Thanks madi.

Now I just need them to send me the paperwork.

>_<
Your last post made me think that you should really send a letter reminding people of Ron Burgendy into the admissions office:

Dear EVMS:
I was recently going through the files for my medical school application to EVMS when I was unable to locate the paperwork for acceptance. So go ahead and send those documents to me and I would be happy to return them to you at my earliest convenience within 10 days. Please hurry, like a good deal on a used car, these offers don't stick around forever.
Sincerely Yours,
Depakote
PS: Do you know who I am? I'm kind of a big deal.

On another note, any news or success stories for anybody out there lately? 🙂

I finally saw Anchorman the other day so I now get that quote. However, I think I prefer the quote from the Kanye video. "Do you know who I am? I'm m*f*n Nia Long ... (Nia Long)" 😀

As to news, I sent my piece of flair to EVMS, a postcard from London, but I haven't heard anything back yet other than that I'm still "very high in the waitlist" ... sigh, it's hard out here for us white MOOSe.

ok, so i'm sorta frustrated. i just called the office and was told that i was still top third but that people were being pulled off the waitlist not in priority order--what point is there to assign priority when people aren't being pulled off in that order!?!

i understand that if they need a female oos and the next available one is middle third--ok. i get that

but if they need an in-state female and i'm an instate female in the top third, but they go with one in the middle third--then really, what is the point of assigning me to top third??? i beginning to feel that this is getting hopeless.

anyone?? sorry. i just have to vent. work is not going so well and i would like to say goodbye to it sooner than later... 👎

on a sidenote, so they again misread my points or whatever. they said i was middle third but then i asked again (mentioned how last time i was top third) and they corrected themself. so really where am i?!?!

Nobody really knows what's going on or how they make the decisions... just hang in there.

🙁 Maybe they just meant that if a male is needed, then they would skip top third female to go to middle third male...and so on.....i hope they don't mean that they are skipping you when you fit the description that they are trying to replace!!!!!!!

are you sending updates? I heard showing continued interest in the school can sometimes matter more than your rank on the waitlist...just a thought. good luck :luck:

i've just stopped wearing pants...i need to try something new 😕

my last update was in march. but when i actually sat down with the dean, he told me that i wouldn't hear anything til may/june... so i assumed i didn't need to update him... but i've just finished an LOI and will send it off tomorrow.

i will probably be sending a letter every 2 weeks now... if that's what it'll take!

ps let me know how the nudity works! :luck: :luck: :luck:

if i go to meet the dean, i just don't know what color tie i should wear. i think it should match the jacket, but i don't want my non-pantedness to contrast too much

Wear a plaid tie. Dr. McCombs, the former Dean of Admissions (now retired), wore plaid pants every day. Dr. Solhaug, the current Dean, would probably find it charming and remiscent of his former colleague with whom he seemed to be good friends. At the very least, you would probably stand out in his mind a little more - in a good way, of course 🙂 .

I received my first accpetance yesterday! Large EVMS envelope waiting for me in the mailbox. I mailed out my deposit first thing this morning. Yaaaay EVMS, thanks for taking a load off my shoulders.

Good luck to everyone! :luck:

Grats! 👍 👍

As a future applicant there, if you dont mind, what were your states (were you in-state). This schools is moving on and off my list of schools to apply to

I had called the admissions office twice, once in Jan/Feb and on May 15. Both times I was told I was in the middle third. I never asked to make sure the person was reading the point system correctly, I just accepted what they told me. Oh, I'm in state, female, for those wondering. Ummm...postmark date on the envelope and letter is May 26 and I received it May 30th. If you want more info, just ask.

so if you're in-state...my letter should be arriving by the end of the week...sweet, thanks!

i was going to call today, until i lost my cell phone, but now i found it, so i am going to call tomorrow

so has most of the waitlist movement been for in-staters thus far?

NPRjunkie...congrats on your acceptance.

I'm instate male, middle third - let's hear it for the middle third

Woot woot! (For the middle third)
These waitlists need to pick up the pace...

how about some OOS, let's get moving on that!

i really thought the OOS list would move a lot faster due to tuition concerns...

I thought the same... But another school I am waitlisted at is having issues with the withdrawal rate not being what it used to be- so it appears waitlists are moving slower this year, at least at some schools 🙁 So maybe the OOS list IS moving faster, it's just that neither is moving much...

I really think every year it gets more and more competitive to get into med school. Therefore, ever year has "slower" or the "same" movement than the previous year. 🙁 Oh well, just keep positive.

It's also possible that OOS movement is decent, it's just that the people getting in so far aren't on sdn. I suppose it's true that we (on sdn) are only a few of the applicants in the entire pool. So if there are any lurkers out there, feel free to post any news or info of waitlist movement! 👍
edit: the above comment is null and void if any of you talking about the lack of movement got that info straight from the office of admissions 😳

Congrats NPR! It's a great feeling to get one of those large packets from a med school! 😎

I called the office yesterday, and they told me that so far 18 OOS and 22(?) in-staters had been pulled off of the list so far, and that there had not been any recent movement. But, apparently this could change at any time.

:luck:

Thanks for the congrats, everyone. I definitely empathize with everyone here because, prior to the acceptance, I was on only two waitlists (EVMS and MCV) and stalked the SDN forums like mad for any news regarding waitlists. The majority of my friends currently attending MCV and EVMS were waitlisters and had told me not to lose hope because they were pulled off in the summer. Hopefully, that means that there is a chance for everyone else, so don't lose hope!

NPR, do you have a preference between EVMS and MCV?

18 and 22 actually is a lot higher than I expected for only 2 weeks having passed since the deadline. And the fact that they are saying there hasn't been much movement makes those numbers encouraging. If that's not much movement, what would constitute a lot? Maybe I'm looking into this too much, but that actually makes me a little more hopeful 🙂

I believe that it was mostly right around May 15th that the movement occured, and there hasn't been a second wave yet. And I agree that 18 off of the waitlist at this point is pretty good for OOS considering they only have about 35 OOS spots in their class. So yes, I think we should stay hopeful; it's only June 1st afterall. 🙂

Hi Everyone!

I just received an acceptance off the waitlist to VCU today, and though it was a really difficult decision, I decided to accept at VCU.

I will be withdrawing from EVMS in the next few days. I hope the spot goes to a lucky in-stater from this thread. :luck:

OOSers, just ignore this post if you wish.

I know how hard the decision can be, for me as an in-stater and I still think about it every day. In the end, I just felt like EVMS was the better fit for me with the smaller class, atmosphere, etc. But there was always this thought in the back of my mind that a residency position might be easier to land coming from VCU just because they've been around so long so they might be better known. But in the end, as much as I hate the basis of the USN&WR rankings, the data they compiled (and gave for free) convinced me not to worry about that generalization in my mind. The average GPA for the schools is about equal and the average composite MCAT at EVMS is .7 higher. The acceptance rate is equal. VCU has much more research $$ while EVMS has the higher primary care ratings. In the end, the rankings seem about equal. So I felt that the caliber of students is about equal while I preferred the atmosphere and just saw myself fitting in so much better at EVMS. I also liked the direction the school was going with research opportunities, high standardized test scores, etc. You obviously saw it different but it seemed like such a strange decision because the schools are different but both awesome and that made the decision so hard. It's probably been the toughest decision I've ever made. But in any case, what I'm trying to say is, good luck with your future! :luck: And let's hope we here another success story off the waitlist in the next day or two! Good luck to all! :luck:

It also seemed as if most people I talked to and knew from the schools were pulled off the waitlists in the summer. There is definitely still a chance for everyone else no matter what 1/3 you're in. Good luck to you all once again! :luck:

Well here is wishing good luck to everyone in the upcoming week.

I've been daydreaming about receiving my acceptance letter from EVMS and I was at lunch at PF Chang's today and got the following fortune out of my fortune cookie which made we smile from ear to ear: Good news will come for you in the mail 🙂

I got a "Good news will come from far away" fortune in my cookie a few months ago...

I've refused to eat another fortune cookie until that one comes true.

Best of luck to everybody. :luck:

Ghostchild, thank you so much for this post. The VCU v. EVMS decision was impossibly tough for me as well, and it's a relief to hear the perspective from someone else who agonized over the same choice. In the end, the larger environment and the prospect of being attached to a university (= more diverse academics in general) was the biggest attractant for me when it came to VCU.

However, there were still a million things about EVMS that I loved, and I hope that I'll have the chance to interact with many of you while experiencing some of what Norfolk has to offer during clinical rotations in a few years.

Best of luck to all as the waiting continues!

Needing some extra luck...

Anyone called or talked to EVMS recently? I think there might be more in-state shifting to come based on recent "miracles" but I haven't heard of any OOS news as of yet. 😕

(Man I really don't want to have to fill out and pay for the AMCAS for a third time)

Yeah, I'm not wanting to re-apply either.

I talked to EVMS. I was told there's been some OOS movement. The list is still dynamic though, so it sounds like there's still potential for all groups. But I get the feeling we could be in this for the long haul. *groan*
