so, I thought I had put EVMS behind me, since them rejecting me last month, but now I just received this letter in the mail today:

Dear Applicant,

The invitation to complete our supplemental application was sent to you in error. Your application had not gone though the pre-screening process as it should have before the invitation was sent, therefore we are returning your check and supplemental.

Thank you.

NOW, this really annoys me, what happened? Rather, how could this have happened? I wasted a good day or so filling out this supplemental, and now they told me they sent it to me in error? Does this mean that they just now pre-screened my application after receiving my secondary they wanted me to fill out? I dunno, what do you guys think of this, should I call the office to see what the real deal is?

thanks

I would consider myself lucky that they are sending me the check back, rather than just rejecting me and keeping the money. I wish the schools that have rejected me would send me my application fees back!

I agree, that is very nice of them to send me back my check. They didn't even cash it. At least EVMS is honest about their mistakes, unlike some other schools. Thus, I have much more respect for them.

I don't think it so much a case of honesty. I think that it's pure sloppiness. In fact, EVMS is developing a reputation for both IMO.

I and quite a few other applicants were told in mid-August that we would be receiving email invites for interviews after calling them to check our status post-secondary. We waited for a few weeks, but nothing came. I called them back three times over a 2 month span and they still said that I would definitely be receiving an email invite soon. But then I called them again just a few weeks ago, and they then instead said that no decision has been made in regards to whether I would receive an interview. So, they probably backtracked on what they said earlier. 😕

But I guess it's better than a person that I know that got a rejection letter a month after he too was told that he would be receiving an interview invite from EVMS. 😱

To me, either they are somewhat dishonest or they are just very disorganized and make these kinds of mix-ups quite frequently.

It's too bad. EVMS staff are really receptive when called, and seem to regularly disclose information on acceptance, interviews, etc., which is great (if true) - with all these mistakes however, I am starting to see why most schools are tight lipped.

I would be angry in your position as well - I wonder if they even read your secondary...

With 4,000 paper applications, I'm not surprised that there exists the possibility for errors in the system. I remember reading about someone calling and hearing, "We can't find your file right now, try back later."

However, I think that is an administrative thing. The people that actually deal with those apps every day are saints for doing it with a nice attitude. I also think it speaks well of their beliefs when they take time out to acknowledge an error and actually give money back - if they had just rejected your secondary, nobody would have known.

I do think this is awful and I feel for the OP - EVMS needs to get into the 1990's and computerize their apps.
