EVMS Rejection

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So you made it past the pre-secondary screen, but they rejected you before your new mcat scores? That's weird. I am on a pre-secondary hold (outof-state), pending release of my August scores. I don't know why they would send you a secondary just to reject you without a complete application, essentially. If you improve on the MCAT, you should definitely appeal the rejection.

I am out of state as well. I had 29 on April's MCAT (6 VR though), and 3.8 GPA. Don't know what happen there. I plan to call them up after August scores to see if they can review my file again.

Did you get the email from Tonya Reed saying they would wait until August scores come in before making a decision on your file? You should call them Monday first thing.

Damn dude, I have lower stats then you, and retook the August test but I passed their screen. Now i'm a little worried that they will reject me without waiting on my aug. score.

Sorry to hear that. I have a 29 too and a quite lower GPA than you do, but I interviewed there already (out of state). See if you can find out why they rejected you. That's very odd.

Do you mind telling me the breakdown for your 29? I think 6 on VR might've hurt a lot.

Another thing, I didn't say I was retaking MCAT on AMCAS, but notified them via letter in July. So, its possible that they might not even know that i am retaking the mcat.

This is my take-

Medical schools, especially post-secondary, do not base their decisions on whether or not to accept or reject an applicant solely on GPA & MCAT. Just because you have a decent MCAT and good GPA, a school will tend to weigh your personal comments and extracurricular activities, jobs, research, etc. more so than your stats. Obviously, many schools base their pre-screen on stats alone, so once you've passed that step, I would think med schools evaluate your overall potential and well-roundedness. Not every school will like what you have to say...but then, that's why there's more than one med school! Hope my words bring about a good point (although, keep in mind, it's really my opinion...I'm not on an adcom or anything)...
