So, after shedding my tears over the rejection from my only interview this weekend, I am ready to look ahead to next year.

I have read something about "exit interviews" on here somewhere and I was wondering what they are, if they are helpful, and how I go about getting one?

I only interviewed at one school, is this where I should ask for one? Could it be over the phone, or does it have to be in person?

Sorry to hear that.🙁

Some schools like SUNY Upstate will invite you to come talk with their admissions people (if you call and ask) about what you can improve for next year, but I think that might be a rare case.

I would say call the one that rejected you and any other you thought you might have had a fair chance at and see if you can get some feedback/areas for improvement for the next application cycle.👍

Note: Some schools are friendly to these sorts of inquiries and some not, but you'll never find out unless you talk to them!

I tried to start a thread that would eventually list every shcool and whether or not they offer feedback ... if anyone wants to find and revivie it, awsome.

Just send an email to the school. I did it last year at some schools I didn't even interview at. They still had good things to tell me about my app and why I was rejected pre-secondary. I did mine over the phone.

I suggest emailing all the schools you were rejected from and ask for advice. About 1/2 of mine were willing to offer advice. Whether you're communicating by email or by phone, be sure to have specific questions and ask about every part of your application--even the parts you're happy with. It's free advice and you might hear something you didn't think about.

I also suggest that you listen carefully to how the advisors speak. They will rarely tell you flat out that part of your app sucks, but you might have to read between the lines to hear what they're telling you.
