Just found out that the expected cost of Pitt's MOT program is $73, 900 (tuition for the entire program) in case anyone else is looking for that information. This is for OOS students.

So is it going up from the 2011-2012 year? I wish their rates were better published for the 2012-2013 year. I haven't had a chance to speak with them about all the details.

What is the breakdown on that and where specifically did you find that information, Lifeisgreat?

The info came from a call to the school. Don't know the breakdown - was just given that figure as the total cost of tuition for the MOT program (including summers).

That seems significantly higher than the costs from last year (~25k for OOS full year).

That $25,388 is for two terms (Fall and Spring) and does not include summers.

OK, here is the breakdown (you can request a PDF from the Pitt OT Dept that has this exact info and final $$$ total for the program). This is specific for the OT Dept (OOS):

$7516 Summer I, $13,139 Fall I, $13,139 Spring I, $6,453 Summer II, $13,114 Fall II, $13,064 Spring II, $7,466 Summer III for a total of : $73,891. This includes tuition and fees only.

Note that the above info is for 2011-2012 (not 2012-2013).

The yearly rate of $25,388 on their web page is for two terms (Fall and Spring) and does not include summers. It also does not include mandatory fees. Mandatory fees are currently $200 for each Summer term and $370 for each Fall term and $370 for each Spring term (this is on top of tuition). Lab fees run an additional $25 to $75 a term (depending on the term).

So again, the total tuition/fees for the MOT program (based on 2011-2012 rates) is currently $73,891.

Better to know all of this info ahead of time to help out with planning.

Just emailed them to get a PDF. Anyone know when we will be put in touch with financial aid? I mailed in my deposit yesterday so I am assuming once they receive that sort of stuff they will begin sending more information. Didn't know if anyone else is further along in the process.
Thanks Lifeisgreat for the update. I think someone had started a thread about costs of MOT programs. This is very useful information especially when you begin considering extra fees.

Thanks for the update; definitely good information to have. Out-of-staters can receive in-state tuition after 12 months of living in the state and with a valid driver's license. This should reduce the cost a bit. Also, I think we'll hear from the financial aid department sometime in March. The occupational therapy department will be sending out new student information at the end of this month that will most likely address these questions.

Lbsubstylee: In order to be considered an instate resident and to receive the instate resident rate, you must live a minimum of 12 months in the state of Pennsylvania PRIOR to enrolling as a student. You CANNOT get instate tuition by living in Pennsylvania while you are a student here and then 12 months later declaring the state to be your home state. Wish that were the case.

You can go to the Pitt tuition/financial aid website and it clearly explains who will be considered an instate resident and who will be considered an out-of-state resident for tuition purposes. It is stringent (as it is for all state-supported and state-related universities).

True for some, but PA will be my permanent residence. It will just take some extra steps:

(i) The following factors may be considered as evidence of domiciliary intention but may be given weight that the finder of fact given the circumstances of each case may assign to them:
(A) Lease or purchase of a permanent, independent residence within this Commonwealth by the student.
(B) Payment of appropriate State and local taxes. Special attention should be given to payment of Pennsylvania taxes on income earned during periods of temporary absence from this Commonwealth.
(C) Transfer of bank accounts, stocks, automobiles and other registered property to Pennsylvania from another state.
(D) Procurement of a Pennsylvania driver's license.
(E) Procurement of a Pennsylvania motor vehicle registration.
(F) Agreement for permanent, full-time employment in this Commonwealth.

There are some other ways/factors. Where there is a will there is a way.
