I graduated with a life science degree and 3.9 sGPA/cGPA in 2018 and completed most of my BCPM prereqs in 2014-2016. I was wondering if the age of my coursework will cause adcoms to hesitate when I apply next cycle? I have applied twice and was told that being out of school for >2 years prior to matriculation is not great, so I recently took an upper div biochem course and will get a new LOR from it. I also retook the MCAT and went from a 513 -> 520 a few months ago. Should I take more upper div BCPM classes or am I safe with my one class and new MCAT? Also how many courses are older applicants advised to take if they've been out of school for four years before matriculating?

It varies by school. Some schools hold pre-reqs expire 5 or 10 years out. A minority of schools hold the requirements expire 3 years after graduation (e.g. UPenn, UNC). Many schools have no cut-off at all. With that said, I do think it would be great if you could finish 24-30 credits full time/over the summer or complete a master's degree in science so that adcoms have an ability to assess your current academic prowess. The issue may also be with what you did during that two year period.

Your MCAT score supports the idea that you know your pre-clinical material and are well prepared for medical school courses. And you only graduated 2 years ago. Unless a school has specific rules that would screen you out, I think you're good to go!
