So my freshman year, I was caught with a few other students smoking marijuana and ended up getting written up for it. Needless to say, this was a bit of a wake-up call and I was careful to stay away from anything that might get me in trouble the next few years.

Here's what I wrote in AMCAS: the nature of the offense, what I had to do (watch a few videos about the dangers of marijuana and write a short essay), that I take full responsibility since I knew the rules at the time, and that I have stayed out of trouble since.

Some secondaries have asked me to explain any IAs I received. My question is, should I just copy/paste what I wrote in AMCAS? Should I just rephrase my AMCAS statement? Should I wax poetic on how this was a wake-up call for me and that I realized I needed to take my future seriously, etc.?

The copy/pasta is fine. key thing is to own the transgression and if possible, show how far you've come (like some alcohol abusers take part in programs for teens with drug problems)
