Extra dental office work

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Credentialing for the site, malpractice coverage, and any active non-compete agreements that you have in play are the considerations that come to mind. Is this an oral-maxillofacial practice?

There are some dodgy dental practices around here. Some of the CRNAs I know used to work with one that would schedule ANYBODY including some really abnormal special needs kids, didn't have qualified PACU staff, and had poor and outdated equipment. They'd tell me stories of nasal intubations for fat syndrome kids they'd extubate and drop off in a "PACU" before rushing the next one into the procedure room. It's anesthesia for airway surgery at a remote location in patients screened by a dentist and you may be very alone.

The generous hourly rate is the dentist buying malpractice coverage off you, essentially. Visit the place and see how it's set up.

One of the CRNA's I worked with as a resident did some "work" on the side. He worked at an REI clinic, doing sedation for egg retrieval/embryos/etc. He told me the facility didn't want to get an IV sedation license so he could only give oral or IM midazolam and used nasal fentanyl spray. Sounds pretty borderline.

I would definitely check out your friends set-up. It's nice to have some extra spending $$ but if done the wrong way could cost you much, much more than you gain. Maybe he has a great set-up and he just would like some help and take the stress out of doing his own sedation. You'll only know by going to check it out.

Thanks for all the good advice. What do you recommend for malpractice?
