I am currently waitlisted by several school. I am thinking about sending an extra letter of recommendation to them. The writer is a faculty member of one of these schools that I am waitlisted.

However, I heard that usually the extra LOR must be about things that the applicant did AFTER the submission of the application. The writer knew me since high school but I haven't really talked too much with him during my last year, meaning that it would be about mostly things that I have listed on my application.

So should I send this LOR? Would it be looked upon negatively?

Thanks in advance.

I doubt it can be looked upon negatively if it is a positive letter. Worst that can happen is they just file it and nothing comes from it. Best is that they consider that faculty letter to be very influential. At the least, it hopefully will get you another look from the adcom by putting you at the top of the pile.
