Heyooooo,

So need some opinions on this one. This is gonna sound like kind of an ******* question - but whatever, I need advice. My dad is a pretty prominent surgeon with lots of doctor friends in high places. Many of them I know decently well and have offered to write letters of recommendation on my behalf to the schools they either attended or currently teach at (or in one case, even used to serve on the admissions committee). These people don't know me especially well in a professional capacity, but obviously could have some weight with their respective schools.

SO: good idea or bad idea having them send in some sort of extra letter? Best case scenario, it helps me get accepted..... worst case: they thing I'm trying to pull a fast one or something tacky like that.

Opinions... GO!

If you have connections, use them. Hell if you're uncomfortable because you do not know the letter writers well, set up a short interview dinner and they can then have something more personal to talk about in their letters.

I would absolutely use these connections.

Yaaah I guess I just wasn't sure if its in bad taste/would annoy them if I sent in a letter from someone who actually doesn't KNOW me all that well in a professional capacity....

The subtext of the letter is basically "I went to your school, so let this kid in"

But I see what you're saying, every little bit helps

Well because some of these guys weere on the admissions committee, they know what they are doing. If it was inappropriate, they would likely not offer to write you a letter.

Get the letters, many SDNers would eat poop hotdogs to get letters like that.

I agree with everyone. Use the connections.

Haven't you seen that a hard work ethic can only get you so far?
