Hi everyone! How important are extra curricular activities? I have a 3.94 GPA (science) but only have about 90 hours of community service done at Memorial Hospital. I still haven't taken the PCAT. I'm just wondering if it will hurt my chances of getting in UF that I don't have many ECs. =/

Thanks!!

I guess it depends on your situation. Have you been in school full time with that GPA? ECs and pharmacy experience help to fill in the blanks a bit if you have not been in school full time.

Also what is your overall GPA? You list your science GPA, have you taken all the pre-requisites? Does your science GPA include Calculus?

And PCAT score is important. If you are done with prerequisites, when are you taking it?

Not having many and not have any is totally different. Do you have zippo, or at least some?

I think it is very important to show that you are well rounded. Involved in things that are not just pharmacy or science related.

That's my science GPA without Physics & Analytic Geometry/Calculus which I'm taking in the Fall. I've taken everything else. Yeah, I have been a full time student and have a part time job (not Pharmacy related) since I started doing my pre-reqs.
My overall GPA is a 3.6. I have taken other classes that are not part of the pre-reqs and got Bs on a few of them so it brought it down.

I'm taking the PCAT in August.

I just have the 90 hours at the hospital but other than that I don't have much else. I've been a full-time student and have a part-time job which isn't pharmacy related.

I think that sounds pretty good. Are you active in a church or other similar group? Things like that can count depending on what you do there (attending not as much, event planning/volunteering etc...)

:luck:

Hi there, I have a similar question along the same lines of extra curriculars. Do you know if the term "extra curricular" is specific to activies only involved through school (clubs, etc.)? Or could it be something you do on your own time, but having more relation to your work, not academics? I have volunteer work, but some schools have separate blocks for volunteer work and extra curriculars.
Thanks!

I don't think it has to be only school related...I put everything from volunteering to my experience in mixed martial arts

I agree, I didn't have any school related ones, but I did have being a girl scout leader, Relay for Life etc...

Thanks Ladies...Congrats to both of you on your acceptance by the way. What location will you be attending? And was it your first choice?

I will be at the Orlando campus, and it was my first and only choice. My husband is a pharmacist and has an established career here in Orlando. UF-Orlando was my only choice.
